It Burns!

Friday, August 31st, 2007

RingsAt a rehearsal tonight, the bride had great timing as they were each practicing placing the wedding ring on their loved one’s ring finger and the minister was giving the cue “and after you’ve placed the ring on his finger, he says…”  The bride yelled “it burns, it burns!”  I just love wedding rehearsals with laid back couples. :)

Orchid Cake - Frosted Art

Bronwen Weber, executive chef at Frosted Art, was on the WE channel tonight.  LOVE her work!  Bronwen says her goal is to make someone look at the cake for more than a second.  If they can continue to look and find something interesting in the cake, she’s accomplished her goal.  I think this is a fabulous way to look at what you want with your cake.  If it’s something YOU would continue to look after more than one second and ENJOY, you’ve found your cake.  Have fun with it ladies!  You do not have to have the traditional 3 tier, round white cake with ribbon.  Find something you love and put it into your cake design!  I’ve never heard of anyone who regretted having a fun cake.

Budgets

Monday, August 27th, 2007

One of the most popular questions I get asked is how much does a wedding cost?  Many people answer this as a statistic.  For me, I ask in return, what have you budgeted?  Obviously, weddings can be and are expensive.  However, if you plan for an amount that you can afford, any wedding can be made special and unique.

Need help deciding how much to spend?  The best advice I can give you is to know that the facility and food costs will take up approximately 50-60% of your budget.  From this, you can either work backwards from the budget you’ve prepared (your budget is $30,000, so your budget for food/facility is $15,000), or you can work forward from the amounts you’ve already committed to this category (your food/facility cost is $17,000, so your total budget should be around $34,000).  This helps you to judge how much you have left to spend on all other vendors, such as photographer, DJ, etc.  Remember to prioritze your interests too, so you can spend more on what is important to you.

Howdy!

Since that is the traditional Aggie greeting, I think it’s appropriate here (since I am an Aggie).  Welcome to Wendy’s world!  Upon strong advice from a great friend, I’ve decided to start a blog.  Check back here as I’m going to give you all kinds of tidbits, from tips on planning your wedding, vendor spotlights, and even a few funnies along the way.  I hope you enjoy it!  As a bonus, here’s your first funnie:

The best thing I heard all week was when sitting with a bride, her mother and the DJ for her wedding reception,  mom and bride were describing the song list.  Mom says to the DJ, “She wants ghetto bump, which I had to look up on Wikipedia to know what it was.  Ghetto bump is her style.”  BTW - this was a delightful country girl and her very domestic mother.  What a great time!
