Whatcha readin?

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I actually hear this question a lot as I constantly have my nose in a book.  I love to read and I always have.  Now while I was growing up, it was all about science fiction/fantasy, now it’s about wedding books and ways to improve my business (although I still sneak in the occasional sci-fi).  So for all the bride’s out there, I though I’d share the wedding books as I go and for all my industry friends, I thought I’d share the biz books.  You’ll notice I now have a “Books I’m reading now” section.  This will change as I move from book to book, but it will at least give you a linky to buy the book.

diplomacy-guide-book.jpgI just started Sharon Naylor’s book titled The Bride’s Diplomacy Guide - Solutions to 150 of the Stickiest Dilemmas that Face a Bride-to-Be.  Considering that most of my bride’s have some kind of sticky situation they want advice with, I thought this one might come in handy.  Sharon’s basic rule is to remember who you are, who the people you love are and how to be diplomat with these people you call family and friends.  She talks about how everyone gets caught up in the emotion and if you take a minute to consider your options and how to present things to your loved ones (because only you know them best), you’ll probably find the best way to handle a situation, preserving the relationship but still getting your dream wedding.  She actually does list each of the issues and gives you a full script on what to say and how to say it.  I’m only 30 pages in, but I must say I’m appreciating her approach!

Collin County Bridal Show

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who visited me at the Collin County Bridal show today.  I had some of my current couples come by to say hi, vendors I know in the biz, and many, many new brides and grooms taking their first steps in the planning process.  It was great to see everyone!  I hope to hear from you soon so I can help you with plans for your special day.

In case you missed it, here a couple of photos of my booth.  Thanks to my assistant Levi and my sweet husband for helping me set it all up!

I could not have had such a beautiful booth if not for some of my fave vendors:  Judy from Sahana for the amazing centerpiece and bridal bouquet, Kenn from Sahana for the huge checklist and logo banners, Circle Park Bridal for the beautiful dress and Juxtapose Photography for most of the photos in my portfolio book from weddings we’ve worked together.  For more info on how I created the look and obtained the decor, please feel free to call or email me!

My favorite proposal…ever

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

runaway-bride-cover.jpgCall me simple, but the speech that Richard Gere makes, and then Julia Roberts repeats in Runaway Bride is the best proposal I’ve ever heard.  For those guys out there about to pop the question on Valentine’s Day, here’s the speech that I think most women loved to hear:

“Look, I guarantee there’ll be tough times. I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you’re the only one for me. ”

Want a little bling for your day?

Friday, February 8th, 2008

bagborrowsteal-earrings.jpgWell now you can borrow your way to the fancy stuff!  Check out www.bagborroworsteal.com to find a little wowzer for your day.  You can borrow anything from rings, bracelets, jewelry and even some fabuloso bags for as long as you’d like.  The rental price is quite nice and you can start with a week or maybe a month and keep renting as long as you need to.  It’s first come, first serve though, so make sure to rent yours in time for wedding or other special occasion!  I would recommend renting a piece for a month ahead of time so you can make sure your fave is avaialble.
